Why Purchase a Ballistic Glass Bending Furnace from Casso-Solar?

Introduction

Ballistic glass is a laminated composite formed from layers of glass, polycarbonate, and other plastic materials as required for a particular application where bullet-resistance is desired.  For ballistic applications where curvature is required, such as for automotive windshields, it is necessary to bend the layers of glass prior to laminating the assembly together.  Typically, all of the glass sheets are stacked up and bent simultaneously in a furnace to ensure consistent curvature from layer to layer.  This often results in total glass thicknesses of >50mm.

Casso-Solar’s Expertise

Relying on our decades of glass bending expertise, Casso-Solar designed the only furnace on the market specifically built for the manufacture of ballistic glass.  By carefully selecting infrared heaters that operate at the proper wavelength to penetrate through the entire glass thickness, our furnace allows all of the layers to heat and bend evenly.  This ensures that the layers do not separate during bending which can introduce air gaps to the stack and slow down the process.  In addition, using infrared heating technology provides faster and more accurate bending than traditional convection furnaces.

Why Casso-Solar?

Our sales team sits down with each customer to discuss their target production rate and propose the furnace configuration that is best suited to their needs.  Whether that is a manually-operated single-station shuttle bender or a fully automated serial bending system, we fit our designs to suit the customer’s particular requirements.  We also review their desired product mix and identify the proper zoning configuration to allow for all of the necessary primary and cross-curvature bend profiles to be achieved.

Features and Benefits

On top of the reasons for choosing Casso-Solar listed above, there are number of features and benefits of this equipment that further solidify it as the leading furnace design in the market for making ballistic glass.

-         Completely modular, which allows customers to start small and then add modules to easily increase the production rate as their sales increase

-         Equipped with Casso-Solar outerwound quartz tube heaters, which are 20-30% more efficient than the ceramic-based heaters often used in other equipment

-         Control of the furnace is based on glass temperature as measured by an optical pyrometer, ensuring repeatability from part to part.

-         Customizable. Whether you need specialized “crease” heaters to provide localized heat to areas with a tighter bend radius or you want to be able to make multiple parts within a single cycle, our engineering team will design a furnace that is a perfect match for your production requirements.
